Straight to the point | Open daycare services for spring break!

At six weeks notice, the parents did not need this new tile.

During the next spring break, several school service centres, including the one in Montreal (CSSDM), will no longer guarantee a place for children in their daycare services. A minimum number of children from the same school must need the service for it to be offered. All this in the midst of a labor shortage, while many essential workers (we are thinking here of those in hospitals) cannot take leave. Previously, children from different schools were simply grouped together if there were not enough of them.

Why not continue like this? The CSSDM invokes the “labour shortage” to justify its decision… even though it is counting on a vast pool of educators on leave! It is also said to fear that by bringing together children from different schools, they will end up with educators they do not know. But what a tragedy! (It’s ironic.) In the day camps offered as alternatives, the counselors and the children don’t know each other anymore. Some school service centers do worse by offering absolutely no daycare services during spring break. Such a lack of eagerness to help parents is heartbreaking, especially when it is so ill-justified.
