Storm in Nova Scotia | Health services still reduced

Nova Scotia Health says non-emergency services in its eastern zone will continue to be reduced following the weekend’s snowstorm.

This area includes Antigonish and Guysborough counties as well as Cape Breton, where up to 150 centimeters of snow accumulated in some places.

The health authority says it will focus on emergency care on Wednesday and asks patients to consider rescheduling their non-urgent appointments.

The provincial government says residents of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality and Eskasoni should avoid unnecessary travel. He hopes most roads will be clear by the end of the week.

The regional municipality, which includes Sydney, Cape Breton’s largest community, says city hall remains closed and transit services and trash collection are still suspended.

The Nova Scotia government said provincial offices in Cape Breton Regional Municipality and Victoria County will also be closed Wednesday due to ongoing cleanup work following the storm.

All other provincial offices will be open normal hours unless there is a local disruption, such as a power outage.

The government says more than 1,000 people are working around the clock, using about 400 pieces of equipment to clear snow in the province.
