Saturday, February 19 And today Christine, are you going to teach us to say stop on autopilot?
Yes Alain, I’m sure that many of us want our brain to stop spinning, relax or go into pause mode! If you are one of those who have trouble unplugging, well, I offer you a solution that will relieve you, or at least, relieve your brain!
What good news to know that we can regain control of our brain! Our brain works in the following way: it is our attention that creates, that determines our reality. If our attention is focused on all these thoughts that your brain produces (between 65,000 and 70,000 daily thoughts and which, moreover, are recurring), then yes, you will go on a loop. Your brain takes over and pilots you in automatic mode.
So we need to focus our attention on something other than our thoughts?
That’s exactly it Alan. As your attention is able to select what your brain should focus on, you will decide to focus your attention on the feeling, for example, of your body, here and now, rather than on your thoughts. We also do this exercise at the beginning of each sophrology session.
Can you explain it to us?
Well when we arrive for a sophrology session we are still very often in our distractions of the moment, in our thoughts… So I suggest closing our eyes, which has the effect of cutting off with external distractions since we cannot see them anymore. We will then intentionally bring our attention to the position of our body right now, in the present moment.
Is this when we force ourselves to select what our brain should focus on?
Yes, our attention is then focused on all the contact points of our body with the surfaces it touches (the back in contact with the back of the chair for example, the buttocks in contact with the seat, etc.). We will also pay attention to our posture “is my head straight or tilted right now? », we will connect to all our perceptions of the moment. This is how we cut with our thoughts.
Yes, but unfortunately it doesn’t last very long…
It is true that at the beginning of the practice of this exercise, one can feel frustrated not to remain long concentrated on his feelings. Often our attention is captured again by our thoughts; well it doesn’t matter! We will write down our thoughts and we will gently return to our feelings of the moment.
