“Since the signing of the agreement with the eight taxi suppliers who are responsible for 88% of customer trips, vehicle capacity for paratransit has increased and this is what allows us to announce today the return of optional companions,” said Marie-Claude Léonard, director general of the STM, in a press release on Tuesday.
“Today we are taking another step in the right direction to restore our zero refusal policy as soon as possible. We are very aware of the considerable impact that this exceptional situation has had on our customers,” she added.
Users will be able to book their trips from Wednesday, September 28 via the usual procedures.
Remember that the STM has been trying for several months to provide its paratransit service despite a labor shortage in the taxi industry. On August 15, the STM had to implement several exceptional measures to minimize the effects of this shortage and thus ensure its paratransit service.
An agreement with the eight taxi suppliers with whom the STM does business was finally concluded on August 31.
October 3 provincial election
Users requiring an optional companion to vote on October 3 will be able to do so by reserving their trip starting Wednesday. “The paratransit service will also be able to wait 30 minutes on site to allow customers to vote,” said the STM.
