Mr. MacKinnon, first elected in 2015, will be responsible for the smooth running of the Liberal caucus. Among other things, he will ensure that there are enough members in the House of Commons during debates and votes, and will determine on which committees the members of his caucus will sit. It will also allocate offices and seats in the House of Commons.

“Steven MacKinnon is a seasoned parliamentarian who has demonstrated a strong commitment to delivering on our key commitments to build a better future for all Canadians. He will ensure that our team within Parliament remains focused on implementing the Government of Canada’s priorities, ”the Prime Minister underlined in his press release.

“I have no doubts that Steven will carry out his new role with professionalism, integrity and care. He has my trust and respect, as well as that of the entire caucus, ”added Mr. Trudeau.

Mr. MacKinnon previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement. He has not carved out a place for himself on the cabinet, but will add a Gatineau voice to the Trudeau government’s leadership team. He will also be sworn in as a member of the Queen’s Privy Council.
