Former England international Steven Gerrard was appointed Aston Villa coach on Thursday (November 11th), the English Premier League club announced. The Villans, who sacked Dean Smith last week after a fifth straight loss, were quick to find a successor.
“The Aston Villa Board of Directors is delighted to announce the appointment of Steven to the position of Coach”, indicates the club currently 16th in the English Championship. Former iconic player of Liverpool and the English selection, Gerrard, 41, has been coaching Glasgow Rangers since 2018, which he led in 2021 to their first Scottish title in ten years, finishing unbeaten.. He therefore finds the Premier League, land of his exploits in the jersey of the Reds (1998-2015).

Gerrard “made a courageous decision in testing her abilities in the intense, high-pressure environment” of the Scottish Championship, “and it caught our attention”, in the same way “his experience in Europe”, adds Aston Villa in its press release.
