Steven Dubois wins bronze in the 500 meters

Canadian Steven Dubois won the bronze medal in the 500 meters in short track speed skating at the Beijing Olympics.

For Dubois, this is a second medal at these Games. He won silver in the 1,500 meters last Wednesday.

Hungarian Shaoang Liu won gold, ahead of Russian Olympic Committee representative Konstantin Ivliev.

Dubois had been advanced to the A final after he had been the victim of contact with the South Korean Hwang Daeheon during the semi-finals.

The native of Terrebonne took full advantage of this chance. The Kazakh Abzal Azhgaliyev lost his balance in front of him at the start of the final, then Dubois maintained his third position until the end.

Charle Cournoyer also won bronze in the 500 meters at the Sochi Games in 2014. Samuel Girard finished just off the podium in Pyeongchang in 2018.

Earlier in the evening, Jordan Pierre-Gilles had seen his career slowed down in the quarter-finals following a fall.
