Steve Claggett will fight in the world championship

Canadian boxer Steve Claggett will have a chance to shine on June 29 in a world championship fight against Teofimo Lopez in Miami.

This fight against Lopez, reigning WBO super-lightweight world champion, will be televised on the ESPN network during an evening also involving Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of Muhammad Ali, and Robeisy Ramirez.

“I have worked my whole life for this opportunity and I therefore intend not to miss it. I’m more motivated than ever, I’m going to give it my all and I firmly believe that it will pay off for me,” Claggett explained via an Eye of the Tiger press release.

Claggett (38-7-2, 26 KOs) trains in Montreal with trainer Mike Moffa at the Underdog gym. Together, the duo scored nine victories, seven of them by knockout Claggett notably got the better of former world champion Alberto Machado and world challenger Miguel Madueno.

“It is not with a perfect fight that we will win, rather we will have to be perfect every second of the fight,” said Moffa.

For his part, Lopez (20-1, 13 KO) is the reigning WBO 140-pound champion and also owns the prestigious Ring Magazine belt.
