Tensions are growing between Israel and Hezbollah on Lebanon’s southern border. On Sunday April 28, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Stéphane Séjourné, went to Lebanon to try to defuse the situation.

Stéphane Séjourné first went to the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon on Sunday April 28. 700 French soldiers are mobilized there. The Minister of Foreign Affairs will try to defuse the cross-border conflict between Hezbollah and Israel. “We refuse the worst-case scenario. In southern Lebanon, the war is already here, even if it does not say its name. It is the civilian population who pays the price. No one has an interest in Israel and Hezbollah continues this escalation”did he declare.

More and more exchanges of fire at the border

“The night of April 13 to 14 was a turning point which is worrying for us, for everyone”, continued the minister. For two weeks, exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli army on the border have doubled. Israel is striking Lebanese territory more and more deeply. Hezbollah carries out more complex attacks against military positions of the Jewish state. Stéphane Séjourné also spoke with the Lebanese Prime Minister to ease tensions. France wishes to make new proposals to avoid a conflagration.
