Stelia management said on Monday that the bargaining process is “running as normal,” despite Sunday’s strike vote by 99.5%. She said she hoped to reach a “balanced” agreement between employee expectations and “the issues of profitability and competitiveness of the A220 program”.

They are between 200 and 250 workers, members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW), affiliated with the FTQ, to be affected by this negotiation which follows the transfer of union certification.

The workers also rejected the latest offers from management on Sunday, giving themselves the same breath of their strike mandate to be exercised at the appropriate time. These were not final offers from the employer, as management itself indicated that negotiations were following their normal course.

The dispute concerns wages, the pension plan and group insurance, said the IAMAW.

The union claims that the employer, to reduce its labor costs, wants to eliminate certain bonuses and adopt a less attractive pension plan.

The IAMAW maintains that a possible labor dispute “would paralyze the entire production of the A220 at Airbus, which would have a direct impact on the delivery schedule”.
