States’ commitments are “very far” from meeting the objectives set to limit global warming, warns the UN

The United Nations is sounding the alarm on global warming. The last commitments of the States are for the time being “very far” to meet the objective of the Paris agreement, alert Wednesday, October 26 the UN agency for the climate. “We are very far from the level and speed of emission reductions needed to put us on the path to a 1.5°C world”warned Simon Stiell, head of the UN Climate.

Less than two weeks before the opening of the COP27 world climate conference, which will be held in Egypt, the UN Climate publishes a summary of the latest commitments of the signatory countries of the Paris agreement. The text, signed in 2015, sets the objective of contain “the rise in the average temperature of the planet well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels”ideally below 1.5°C.
