(Brussels) NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Sunday against comments that “undermine our security” after the statements of Donald Trump who raised the possibility of no longer defending the Alliance countries whose contribution financial is insufficient.
“Any suggestion that Allies will not defend each other undermines all of our security, including that of the United States, and places American and European soldiers at increased risk,” Stoltenberg said in a statement. .
Donald Trump, likely Republican candidate against Joe Biden in the November presidential election, threatened on Saturday in the event of re-election to no longer defend NATO countries which do not devote a large enough part of their budget to defense, going even to the point of encouraging Russia to attack them.

The former American president regularly criticizes the allies of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization for not keeping their commitments in terms of military spending.
“NATO remains ready and capable of defending all Allies,” insisted the NATO Secretary General in his press release. “Any attack on NATO will result in a united and forceful response,” he added.
“I am confident that the United States will remain a strong and committed NATO Ally, regardless of who wins the presidential election,” he added.
The White House reacted strongly to the former president’s comments. “Encouraging the invasion of our closest allies by murderous regimes is appalling and senseless,” said its spokesperson Andrew Bates.
