(Montreal) The National Director of Public Health, Dr.r Luc Boileau, will provide an update on Wednesday afternoon on the evolution of the COVID-19 situation in Quebec.

He will be accompanied by the pediatrician, microbiologist-infectiologist and president of the Comité sur l’immunisation du Québec (CIQ), Dr.D Caroline Quach-Thanh, during the press conference which will begin at 1 p.m.
On Tuesday, the Quebec government reported a further drop in hospitalizations related to COVID-19, to 1,557, a decrease of 124 from the previous day.
Last Thursday, Health Canada approved the use in adults of a first vaccine from the company Moderna against COVID-19 which targets both the original strain of the coronavirus and the Omicron variant. This vaccine to be used as a booster dose specifically targets the BA.1 sub-variant of Omicron.
Federal Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said a total of 10.5 million doses were expected by authorities by the end of September, and Health Canada said it expected supplies would be sufficient to update the vaccination of all Canadians aged 18 and over.
According to Health Canada estimates cited last week by Minister Duclos, if 90% rather than 60% of Canadians were up to date with their vaccinations, the level of hospitalization attributable to COVID-19 would be reduced by 90% at the end fall or early winter.
