The violent rains flooded several neighborhoods, creating dangerous whirlpools above the manholes in places. Despite the risks, some vehicles continue to venture out. The water rushes down into the basements of the buildings, and it seeps into the subway.
Further torrential rains expected
A lot of New Yorker were surprised by the violence of the rains. A state of emergency was declared and the city’s mayor called for extreme caution. “If you are at home, stay there. If you are at work or school, take shelter where you find“, Eric Adams asked. Instructions that some motorists did not respect, who found themselves trapped.
