Eric Zemmour has been on trial since Wednesday, November 17 for his comments on unaccompanied minors held in September 2020. Journalist Benjamin Delombre, live from the Paris Criminal Court, provides details on this trial for the 19/20 of France 3.
Since Wednesday, November 17, Eric Zemmour has been on trial for his comments on unaccompanied minors, which he described as “thieves”, of“assassins” and of “rapists”. The polemicist did not want to be present for the opening of his trial at the Paris courthouse. “An absence justified by his lawyer: a political debate, said Me Pardo, does not have to be decided in court”, report the journalist Benjamin Delombre, live from the Paris Criminal Court for the 19/20 of France 3.
Éric Zemmour is being prosecuted for complicity in provoking racial hatred for his comments made in September 2020 on a television channel. “Words deemed racist, intolerable by the thirty civil parties who were formed today at the trial”, continues the journalist, who recalls that Eric Zemmour has already been “condemned in the past for facts of a similar nature”. The polemicist faces one year’s imprisonment and a fine of 45,000 euros. A penalty of ineligibility could also be imposed. The requisitions are expected for Thursday.
