Immigration law: start of debates in the Senate

Immigration law: start of debates in the Senate – (FRANCEINFO)

The Senate begins, Monday, November 6, the examination of the immigration bill which sparks a lively debate.

The debates on the immigration law will finally take place. Rejected several times by the government, due to lack of a potential majority, the text is still not unanimous. The first subject of tension is article 3, which plans to regularize foreign workers exercising professions in shortage. This article is particularly disturbing on the right of the political spectrum. “We are going to regularize undocumented immigrants who work illegally”specifies Laurent Jacobelli, RN deputy.

A government open to discussion

For its part, the government says it is open to discussion. “If in the parliamentary debate, other possibilities are proposed, why be closed”, says Olivier Dussopt, Minister of Labor. The other contested measure is state medical aid. The law plans to make it emergency aid reserved for serious illnesses. On this point, the government is divided on the subject. Olivier Véran is against.
