Start of consultations for the appointment of a Prime Minister, threat of censorship, letter to the French from Lucie Castets… Manuel Bompard, coordinator of La France insoumise, deputy of Bouches-du-Rhône, was the guest of “8h30 franceinfo” Friday August 23, 2024. He answered questions from Aurélie Herbemont and Benjamin Fontaine.

Consultations at the Elysée: Emmanuel Macron has “autocratic behavior”

Emmanuel Macron has “autocratic behavior”denounces Manuel Bompard, deputy and national coordinator of La France insoumise while the head of state does not wish to appoint Lucie Castets, the NFP candidate for Matignon. “He cannot continue to cling to power as he is doing.”adds Manuel Bompard.

“The President of the Republic must now accept his defeat in the last legislative elections”continues Manuel Bompard, before the consultations called by the head of state on Friday August 23, to try to resolve the political crisis born of the legislative elections.

Manuel Bompard believes that “If the President of the Republic persists in this autocratic approach, we must respond to that, we are not going to let him do it”He reiterates his threat to dismiss Emmanuel Macron if he does not appoint Lucie Castets as Prime Minister. “I only propose to use one article of the Constitution, it is article 68, it is not chaos”the MP defends himself.

Threats of censorship in case of LFI ministers: “The game is not over”

The presidential camp, the right and the National Rally are threatening a motion of censure in the event of an NFP government including ministers from La France Insoumise. “What matters to me and what should interest everyone is what measures a New Popular Front government would do and implement (…)”, reacts the coordinator of La France Insoumise.

If there is an NFP government as I wish, the first steps we take are to repeal the pension reform, to increase salaries. I say ‘good luck’ to the deputies who will decide to censure such a government. I believe they will not do it.” assures Manuel Bompard.

Open letter and new government: “What interests me is the post-Macron era”

In a letter to the French people co-signed by representatives of the New Popular Front, Lucie Castets once again demands “to be able to form a government”. “We will have to invent a new way of governing”Lucie Castets indicates in this letter.

“I can see that for several days, some people like Mr. Glucksmann, or in the Socialist Party, are trying to use any pretext to fracture the unity of the New Popular Front.”tackles Manuel Bompard, deputy and national coordinator of La France insoumise.

The head of the PS-Place publique list for the European elections stated, on Tuesday 20 August, in an interview with Le Point, that the left had to give up the “radicality” and that she agrees to “negotiate compromises” to be able to govern, which supposes “turn the page on Macron and Mélenchon”. “I have the impression that he is more concerned about the post-Mélenchon period. What interests me is the post-Macron period.”he continues. Manuel Bompard recalls that La France Insoumise does not want any “coalition government”, but “a government whose objective is to implement the program of the New Popular Front”.
