On the occasion of the traditional rugby tournament on May 1st in Tournon sur Rhône, big names in national and international rugby met the 1,700 budding young rugby players and rugby women.
After two years of absence due to covid, the tournament is making a resounding return to the lawns of the Léon Sausset sports park. Melvyn Jaminet back of the XV of France, Jean-Marc Doussain scrum half and opening half of the LOU and sponsor of the 2022 edition or Kevin Gourdon born in Valence and former third line of La Rochelle and the France team, the three French rugby stars distributed hundreds of autographs to the fans massed all day long around them. Exercise that they were able to do with a lot of good humor and patience. The objective was indeed to meet as many children as possible.
Important meetings for pro players and children
Between two rugby pitches, Jean-Marc Doussain says he takes his role as godfather very seriously “We’ve been there too. It’s normal to give children time. It brings us back down to earth”.
Same observation for Melvyn Jaminet whose face it was very difficult to fully see as he looked down to never stop distribute his signature on the balloons, T-shirts or phone cases, “Seeing them happy makes me happy” he lets go in thirty seconds before returning to sign. During his visit, Melvyn Jaminet also received the trophy for “the golden pass” which rewards according to the Tournon club, the best French player.
A new title for the young winner of the VI Nations tournament. For Kévin Gourdon who recently ended his career for health problems, this return to Tournon takes him back several years.
“I played on these grounds, it’s normal to go back there to please all these children.”
