Star quarterback Tom Brady retires ‘for good’

Quarterback Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from professional football on Wednesday morning.

” Good morning everyone. I’ll go straight to the point. I’m retiring, for good,” he said in a video message posted to his official Twitter account while on a beach.

Brady leads the NFL in passing yards by air (89,214) and passing touchdowns (649). He is also the only player to have won more than five Super Bowl rings and been named the Goodell Tour Championship Game MVP five times.

Brady was also named the NFL’s Most Valuable Player three times, and was named to the league’s First Team All-Star on three occasions — in addition to being selected for the Pro Bowl 15 times.

This is the second time Brady, 45, has announced his retirement.

1er February 2022, Brady had confirmed his initial retirement after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs, at home, to eventual Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams.

Then, in March 2022, Brady flip-flopped and came out of retirement 40 days after announcing it to confirm his return to play with the Buccaneers.

“Over the past two months, I’ve realized that my place is still on the pitch and not in the stands,” he tweeted at the time. That time will come, but it is not now. I love my teammates and my family, who support me. They make it all possible. I’m coming back with Tampa, we have a job to finish. »

The American therefore played his 23rde season on the Goodell circuit in 2022-23, and the Bucs won the National Conference South title by an 8-9 record.

Brady and his Bucs teammates, however, lost 31-14 to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL playoffs in January, ending his bid for an eighth career Super Bowl title.

Meanwhile, Brady made headlines last fall following the announcement of his divorce from Gisele Bündchen. The couple announced in October the end of their 13-year marriage.

Brady and Bündchen then released statements via their Instagram account, saying they had made an “amicable” decision.

In addition, Brady had previously indicated that he would join Fox Sports as a football analyst as soon as his playing career comes to an end, after signing a 10-year, US$375 million contract. Fox Corp President and COO Lachlan Murdoch confirmed the information during a conference call with corporate investors last May.
