Stanley Cup Final | Sam Carrick fined for caning Dmitry Kulikov

Edmonton Oilers forward Sam Carrick was fined for hitting Florida Panthers defenseman Dmitry Kulikov with a stick during Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final series on Monday night.

The NHL’s Department of Player Safety relieved Carrick of the amount of US$2,213.54, the maximum allowed under the collective agreement in force in the Bettman circuit.

Both players were fighting for possession of the puck near the boards when Carrick’s stick got stuck between Kulikov’s legs. The Oilers player then appears to have voluntarily lifted it, with 2:03 remaining in the game.

The referees assessed Carrick a minor penalty for slashing, as well as a 10-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The amount will be donated to the NHL Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

The Panthers lead the best-of-seven series 2-0 against the Oilers. The next duel will take place Thursday evening in Edmonton.
