Stade Rennais second in Ligue 1 after a festival in Saint-Etienne (0-5)

Thanks to a ruthless Martin Terrier – Lovro Majer duo, Stade Rennais made short work of AS Saint-Etienne. The Reds and Blacks win widely (0-5) at Geoffroy-Guichard for the 17th day of Ligue 1, this Sunday, December 5, 2021, and regains second place in the standings.

A demonstration against an opponent in crisis, and a masterful performance by Martin Terrier, the Rennes striker author of a hat-trick. A little in the shadow of Gaëtan Laborde, Stade Rennais top scorer, the former Lyon player has shown that he has to be counted on and has scored his 8th goal this season.

Masterful Martin Terrier

The meeting did not start very well for the Reds and Blacks, however, with some defensive mistakes. Saint-Etienne was refused a goal from Wahbi Khazri (18th) for an offside position, after a poor recovery from Rennes. The injury of Stéphane defender Harold Moukoudi will probably destabilize the Greens (20th) and Martin Terrier opened the scoring shortly after, well served by Lovro Majer (22nd).

Behind everything is easier for Rennes. And the same duo does it again, Martin Terrier signs a superb madjer on a pass from … Majer (28th). A few minutes from the end of the first half, it’s defender Lorenz Assignon’s turn to make the difference. In two stages, his shot is deflected into the goal by a helpless Yvann Mason (44th).

Festival of Goals

Martin Terrier only takes a few minutes after the resumption to definitively shower the hopes of Saint-Etienne. At 20 meters he rolls up a magnificent shot from the right which ends in the opposite window. Here again, Lovro Majer has the assist. The Croatian joins Benjamin Bourigeaud and Hamari Traoré at the top of the ranking of the best assisters of the SRFC in Ligue 1.

To top it off, the young Lesley Ugochukwu scores the 5th goal, only two minutes after his entry (83rd). This is his very first goal in Ligue 1, at 17 years and 9 months. Trained at the club, he became the second youngest goalscorer in the history of Stade Rennais, behind Eduardo Camavinga.

Rennes bounces perfectly after the defeat in Lille earlier in the week. Les Rouge et Noir took advantage of Marseille’s poor performance to take second place in Ligue 1. A good omen when it was necessary to compose without Flavien Tait, Jérémy Doku and Birger Meling.
