Sunday May 19, Brest (Finistère), a Breton club, qualified at the last minute for the very prestigious Champions League. A feat. The club’s supporters celebrated this performance throughout part of the night and into the morning. “Exceptional, historic… better than the World Cup”, rejoices one of them at the microphone of France 2. “We deserve it, the players deserve it. That’s wonderful”, confides another. Scarf in red and white colors, symbols of the club, a young woman declares: “they make us dream.”
However, the match was not won. The Rouge de Brest had a difficult first period against Toulouse. The liberators of Stade Brestois were Mahdi Camara, Jordan Amavi and Kenny Lala. Three goals scored away, more than 900 kilometers from Brest. “So proud of this team, we have a real collective, that’s what we showed throughout the season”, concludes coach Eric Roy.
