(Detroit) Stellantis is recalling nearly 1.5 million Ram pickups worldwide to fix a software problem that can disable the electronic stability control system.
The recall affects certain 2019 and 2021 through 2024 model year pickup trucks, primarily in North America.
Stellantis said in a statement Saturday that the vehicles in question may be equipped with anti-lock brake software that could mistakenly disable stability control, which manages the throttle and brakes to prevent skidding.
In this scenario, the company said the brakes would continue to work. Stellantis said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
U.S. safety standards require electronic stability control to operate during nearly all phases of driving.
Dealers will update the software to resolve the issue at no cost to owners, who will be notified by mail starting October 3.
