When they showed up at his accommodation on the second floor of rue de Toulouse, the police discovered the victim’s lifeless body rolled up in a mattress.

She was probably in one of the rooms of the accommodation.

Future ruined

The death of the young woman, noted on site, was “recent”, said the Sûreté du Québec, which inherited the investigation into this case.

Although the police treated the case as a suspicious death on Tuesday, everything indicates that it is a murder, according to our information.

Ms. Faucher was allegedly stabbed, becoming the ninth woman to be killed this year in the province. According to our sources, the tragedy could have occurred in a marital context.

“She was a super cheerful little woman,” Josianne Faucher’s sister testified anonymously, in an emotional interview with TVA Nouvelles. She was the best little sister I could have. […] She had a really bright future ahead of her.”

She says she is “unable to put into words” the seriousness of the situation.

Two relatives of the victim contacted by The newspaper declined to comment as the investigation is ongoing.

Mystery

The police did not want to confirm whether the body of the deceased bore signs of violence, nor whether a weapon was used to commit the crime.

“The autopsy will allow us to establish the exact cause of death,” said Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, at a press briefing.

Tuesday evening, a large security perimeter and a command post had also been set up by the provincial police.

“We didn’t really notice any unusual behavior. Nothing to report,” said a mother, repeating the words of several neighbors met by The newspaper.

The Plein-Soleil school, a public school establishment which welcomes primary school children, is the immediate neighbor of the place where Josianne Faucher was found lifeless.

She assured in an email sent to the parents of her students that she was “in no way concerned by the police operation”.

No arrests have yet been made and several witnesses must be interviewed by authorities.
