Two suspects, aged 16 and 18, were arrested by Montreal police in connection with an attempted robbery and murder with a firearm committed against a pedestrian in the borough of Saint-Laurent le January 7th.
Jafaree Wright, 18, was apprehended yesterday and faces charges of attempted murder, robbery with a firearm, discharging a firearm, conspiracy and receiving possession.
His 16-year-old accomplice, whose identity cannot be revealed as he is a minor, was arrested earlier, in mid-February, and appeared in the Youth Chamber to face charges. counts of robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault, conspiracy and receiving possession.
The two suspects will remain detained pending further proceedings, the Montreal Police Service said Thursday.
The police investigation and the arrests were carried out by the West Criminal Investigation Section of the SPVM with the support of officers from neighborhood station 7 (Saint-Laurent), among others.
The facts occurred on January 7 when, around 11:30 p.m., a 19-year-old young man who was walking on rue Dépatie, in the borough of Saint-Laurent, was suddenly threatened with a firearm by two suspects who had been following him for several minutes.
They wanted to steal his cell phone and other personal belongings, but while the victim resisted and cried for help, she was shot in the abdomen. The suspects then fled on foot and, when the police arrived, the injured young man was taken to hospital. He is still continuing his recovery at home.
