SQ investigates email bomb threats

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating a massive sending of bomb threats by email which targeted various businesses and schools in Quebec. No explosive objects have been found so far. The emails also contain ransom demands.

If your business or establishment receives this type of email, the Sûreté du Québec recommends not responding to it. “We invite you to contact your local police department,” indicates the police force in a press release.

According to our information, the person behind these emails is a hacker located outside of Canada. He allegedly sent several dozen identical emails to various establishments, such as schools, restaurants and other businesses. He would demand that a sum of money be paid to him, failing which he would detonate a bomb.

The SQ specifies that until now, “several checks have been carried out by the police at the targeted locations [par les menaces] and no explosive device was located.”

The Sûreté du Québec is coordinating the ongoing investigation, in collaboration with the police forces in the targeted sectors.
