Spy comedy Argylle tops North American box office

(Los Angeles) The spy comedy, Argyleby director Matthew Vaughn, topped the North American box office for its first weekend of release, according to estimates on Sunday from specialist firm Exhibitor Relations.


This 2h19 parody, co-produced by Apple and distributed by Universal, recounts the misadventures of an author of successful spy thrillers.

For its first weekend of release, the film collected $18 million in revenue from Friday to Sunday, according to Exhibitor.

In second place at the box office is the biblical series brought to the cinema, The Chosen: S3 EP 1-3from Fathom Events, which tells the life of Jesus of Nazareth, and which obtained 6 million dollars in revenue.

The action movie, The Beekeeper (MGM), which has dominated the North American box office in recent weeks, sees itself demoted to third place with $5.2 million in American and Canadian cinemas from Friday to Sunday.

Fourth place goes to the eccentric chocolatier, Wonka (Warner Bros), played by Timothée Chalamet, who grossed 4.7 million. It has not left the podium since its release in North America on December 15.

Finally, the animated film Migration (Universal), closes top 5 at the box office, having collected $4.1 million in revenue this weekend, for a total of $106 million in North America.
