Are the French in the process of discovering a passion for sports halls? In any case, fitness and well-being attract investors. In the cities, the halls are getting bigger and the independents are finding it increasingly difficult to resist the big brands.

Since the health crisis, sports halls have been rowing: one in five members has not resumed their subscription. So cinemas flex their muscles by using ever more advanced technologies, extending opening hours and lowering prices. In a street in the Paris suburbs, over a few tens of meters, there are no less than three sports halls. The cheapest is a chain that offers a rate of less than 20 euros per month. The machines are cheap and the staff few because the fitness classes are given on screen. The chain has decided to invest in small towns like Sablé-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe) or Laval (Mayenne).

To stay in the race, other channels rely on technology, such as a giant egg that allows you to visualize your muscular double and guides training to look like it. However, some rooms stick out their tongues. Close to a low-cost chain, an independent Bordeaux (Gironde) is twice as expensive and has therefore lost some of its customers. To compensate, the room relies on personalized support. Fitness rooms compete today for 5 million followers in France.
