“Splendor and influence”, a cringe-inducing parody of reality TV

They spend their days taking selfies, dream of fame and necessarily have beautiful teeth: “For people who have braces, there is zero tolerance. ” Series Splendor and influence, by author Marc Brunet, paints a scathing portrait of the world of social networks and reality TV.

We owe the classics to this master of parody Like me, The heart has its reasons, Bobos, The end of the world is at seven o’clock And The tall blond with a sneaky show. Its new production on influencers ticks all the boxes to become another cult show.

The first two episodes of the series, which journalists were able to view on Tuesday, highlight the crafted and ironic dialogues that have made Marc Brunet’s reputation. Her favorite actress, Anne Dorval (who plays Bree, co-host of Splendor and influence), is supported by a young cast tailor-made to embody this artificial and superficial world.

“We found the best influencers to take part in the adventure. For the next few months, they will have to live with the constant pressure of being offered free products, feigning friendship and wearing nice clothes,” says Zac, the co-host of this reality show, played by Philippe-Audrey Larrue-Saint -Jacques.

Pascale De Blois and Mathieu Dufour, who are “content creators” in real life (in addition to being actors and humorists), happily make fun of the failings of the profession. Yannick De Martino and Naïla Louidort also shine in their characters obsessed with fame.

Arms in the air

Marc Brunet once again demonstrates that he has mastered the art of punchy dialogue. “It would allow me to realize my big dream: practicing the profession of being known,” says one of the candidates who is asked why they want to join Splendor and influence.

“Sometimes I put on makeup and think about the war,” added another participant. This influencer from Trois-Rivières, known as Vadge (Pascale De Blois), is known for doing pilates in her living room next to a blower. She also loves having her photo taken with her arms in the air.

The characters all describe themselves as “agents of social change.” They have the qualities required to participate in a reality show: the “will to follow their dreams and be free on Tuesday afternoon”, the “ability to have their photo taken while jumping in the air” or again that of “pretending to meditate in Bali”.

“People suffering from body diversity” are also invited to apply. And so much the better if your grandmother has just died, “that makes for good TV”. As for Drano (Yannick De Martino), he has another ace up his sleeve: “I already vomited in France. »

“Sick quest for fame”

We laugh, we slap our hands on our thighs, but Marc Brunet does not want to denounce the world of reality TV and social networks, which he knows little about. “I’m not a big guy fan reality TV. Like everyone else, I see little extracts left and right,” he told journalists after the viewing.

He praises Pascale De Blois and Mathieu Dufour (Cyprien), who define themselves as “content creators” to their thousands of subscribers on social networks. Splendor and influence instead shines the spotlight on “the unhealthy quest for instant fame”.

“There are some influencers who create legitimate content, who really have knowledge in cooking, in fashion, in anything. It’s legitimate, what they’re doing, and there’s work behind it,” says Marc Brunet. ” In our show, we deal with a tiny part of that, which is often the one that we notice the most, the part that is a little more superficial, a little more flashy, a little more profiting from their environment. »

The author reconnects with his beloved actress, Anne Dorval, who left an unforgettable memory in The heart has its reasons And Bobos (and many other productions). Marc Brunet has only good words for the interpreter of Criquette Rockwell, an “actress of international caliber” who can play in all registers.

“Write a show and make Anne do it, it will work! » he says, laughing.
