Claude Julien could land a new job in the Spengler Cup, in addition to the Olympics, should the NHL decide to withdraw from Olympic competition.
That’s what Sportsnet reporter Elliotte Friedman reported on Thursday morning.
For now, Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper is due to be behind the bench in Beijing in February. His deputies are to be Bruce Cassidy, Peter DeBoer and Barry Trotz.
However, if the NHL decides not to send players to the Olympics due to the health situation, then Claude Julien, who would be in charge of the Canadian team that will take part in the Spengler Cup, from December 26 to 31, would also go to the Olympics in February. Bruce Boudreau, who has also been unemployed since 2020, would be his deputy.
Obviously, if Julien or Boudreau were to be entered by a team from the Bettman circuit between now and the two events, then a replacement would have to be found.
Remember that Claude Julien was the head coach of the Canadian from 2016 to 2021. He was fired and replaced by Dominique Ducharme last February.
