« Je me suis comporté de manière inacceptable et j’en prends la responsabilité. » Le spectateur qui a attaqué verbalement et physiquement un jeune arbitre de 14 ans sur un terrain de soccer de Dollard-des-Ormeaux, samedi, a envoyé une lettre d’excuse à Soccer Québec.

La fédération l’a publiée sur ses réseaux sociaux, mardi.
Une vidéo ayant fait surface la veille montrait la scène : un homme s’en prend verbalement à un jeune arbitre depuis les gradins, avant de descendre sur le terrain. Des coups sont échangés avant que d’autres spectateurs interviennent et plaquent l’agresseur au sol.
L’homme était le grand-père d’un des joueurs.
« Durant le match, j’ai initié une altercation verbale, puis physique avec un jeune juge de ligne, écrit-il. […] Rest assured that I deeply regret it. As a former teacher, I am particularly aware that this is a very bad example for 14 year olds. »
He then apologizes “to this young man and his family”, to “players and coaches of both teams, as well as to the other match officials”.
The spectator explains that he “started a process to obtain help”, speaking of an “unjustifiable gesture”.
He says he hopes that this story will nevertheless allow “everyone to become aware of the importance for our children or our grandchildren to be able to have fun while practicing their favorite sport in an environment free from violence”.
The match pitted the Saint-Laurent team against the Haut-Richelieu team.
Monday, Soccer Quebec had denounced “firmly this act of violence which has no place anywhere”.
Isabelle Charest, Minister for Education, responsible for sports issues, had judged that the situation was “unacceptable”.
