Challenges
In the two Charentes, five duels oppose the presidential coalition to the National Rally (the RN came first in the 1st round in the 3rd of Charente and the 5th of Charente-Maritime). Two between the presidential majority and the Nupes (the left alliance which only maintained three candidates in the second round). Finally, in the 1st constituency of Charente-Maritime, always apart, a singular duel: the outgoing deputy various left Olivier Falorni will face Jean-Marc Soubeste for Nupes. Five outgoing deputies will try to keep their seats.
At the national level, several questions arise: will the president have an absolute majority? will the RN succeed in forming a group (15 deputies at least)? Abstention will also be particularly scrutinized for this election. Election after election, turnout has been declining since the 1980s. In the 1st round in our two Charentes, nearly one in two voters did not go to vote, 49.81% abstention last Sunday in Charente-Maritime and 49.79% in Charente.
