Dani Alves will be released from prison. On Wednesday March 20, Spanish justice accepted the Brazilian footballer’s request for release on payment of a bond of one million euros. The former international was sentenced last month at first instance to four and a half years in prison for rape.

The continued pre-trial detention of Dani Alves, pending his appeal trial, “can be avoided in exchange for paying a deposit of one million euros”announced a Barcelona court in a press release, specifying that justice would also confiscate its “two passports, Spanish and Brazilian”. “It’s a scandal that we let a person go free when we know he can raise a million euros in no time”reacted Me Ester García, the victim’s lawyer. “It seems that justice is being done for the rich”she told Catalan radio RAC-1.

The Brazilian was found guilty of rape for facts dating back to the night of December 30 to 31, 2022 in a Barcelona nightclub. After the complaint filed on January 2, 2023, the former right-back was placed in pre-trial detention on January 20, 2023 until the opening of his trial on February 5.
