Spanish biker Carles Falcon was in “serious condition” on Sunday after a fall on the second stage of the Dakar 2024 between Al-Henakiyah and Al-Duwadimi, ASO, the organization of the event, announced on Sunday January 7. “At km 448 of today’s special [dimanche] at 3:52 p.m., Spanish motorcycle rider Carles Falcon (n°135) suffered a fall.explains the press release from Amaury Sport Organization, published at the end of the afternoon.
“Immediately informed by a pilot who was following him, the organization dispatched a medical helicopter which took care of the injured motorcyclist in a condition considered serious. He was airlifted to Al-Duwadimi hospital”specified ASO, adding that a complete assessment would be communicated “in the next few hours”. The Spaniard from the Twintrail Racing Team finished 76th in the first stage on Saturday between Al-Ula and Al-Henakiyah on his KTM.
In the evening, his team provided details on his state of health in a press release shared on social networks: “Carles was found unconscious and without a pulse, but doctors revived him […] He suffers from a fracture of the C2 vertebra which requires emergency surgery.” The team also specifies that he suffers from brain edema and that he has been placed in an artificial coma. His teammate, Isaac Feliu, also injured on the Dakar two years ago, has withdrawn from the competition.
