On the eve of the first match of the Blues in the competition, against Denmark, the first clash of the League of Nations resulted in a draw, Thursday, June 2, between Spain and Portugal (1-1). A first inconclusive test for the two headliners of group 2.

In this engaged Iberian duel but relatively poor in scoring opportunities, it was Alvaro Morata who opened the scoring for La Roja, on a counter-attack brilliantly led by the young Gavi (25th). But the Portuguese, long clumsy and deprived of Cristiano Ronaldo during the first hour of play, equalized at the end of the match by Ricardo Horta (82nd). The Braga player had just come into play for his second cap, eight years after his debut with the Seleção. Inseparable rivals, Spaniards and Portuguese leave each other for the fourth time in a row with a draw.

This draw benefits the Czech Republic, which offers the head of group 2 at the end of the first day thanks to its success over Switzerland (2-1). Put into orbit by a goal from Jan Kuchta (11th), the locals conceded a goal just before the break, by Noah Okafor (44th). The Czechs still won the day, thanks to an own goal from Djibril Sow (55th).
