Tuesday August 30, Catalonia (Spain) was the target of a hailstorm. The human toll is significant: several people were injured and a 20-month-old girl died.

Tuesday, August 30, the hailstones that fell in Spain are more than 10 cm in diameter and they are so heavy that the din is deafening. Car sirens join in. When they fall into the pools, the hailstones cause sheaves of water several meters high. It has been 20 years since Catalonia and the small municipality of Bisbal ofEmporda (Spain) had never experienced such a storm. At least 50 people are injured and a 20-month-old girl died after being struck by hailstones on her head.

People took refuge as quickly as possible, especially in a restaurant. “It is not normal. The sky is falling on our heads”says a man. A farmer was forced to take refuge under his tractor. He still received a hailstone on the head. After about ten minutes of intense hail, the inhabitants see the extent of the damage. In a street, no windshield resisted.
