(Denver) A Southwest Airlines plane returned to Denver Sunday morning after the engine cowling hit a wing flap during takeoff, the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The Boeing 737 was able to land safely and passengers bound for Houston were able to board another plane, Southwest Airlines said in a statement.
“We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay, but place our highest priority on the ultimate safety of our customers and employees. Our maintenance teams are examining the aircraft,” the statement said.
This is the second incident this week for the airline, with a flight from Texas canceled Thursday after reports of an “engine fire.” Firefighters in Lubbock, Texas, confirmed that a fire in one of the two engines had to be put out.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating both incidents.
Both planes were Boeing 737-800s, an older model than the 737 Max.
