During its passage earlier this week, the typhoon, one of the strongest to hit the country in decades, flooded streets and buildings.
In the southeastern port city of Pohang, one of the hardest-hit areas, seven bodies and two survivors were extracted from an underground parking lot under a residential building that was submerged by floodwaters, the center said. disaster prevention and management.
They had been trapped after getting out to move their vehicle during heavy rain, according to local media.
Rescue operations continued on Wednesday, with authorities saying two people remain missing.
Two more deaths were confirmed on Wednesday, respectively in Pohang and Gyeongju, a city further inland, where one person died when a house was buried by a landslide, authorities said.
On Tuesday, a septuagenarian died in Pohang after being swept away by flood waters.
The typhoon forced more than 4,700 people from their homes to safety and destroyed around 12,000 homes and buildings.
Nearly 90,000 homes were without power across the country as the storm passed, but most of them had been powered by Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Before the typhoon made landfall, South Korean authorities closed more than 600 schools nationwide as a precaution and local airlines canceled some 250 domestic flights.
