FC Südburgenland 1b Triumphs in Spring Championship Opener

In an impressive display, FC Südburgenland 1b clinched a pivotal 2:1 victory against the SV Stallhofen women’s team, marking a successful start to the spring championship. The young squad showcased their skills and determination throughout the match.

Comeback After Autumn’s Setback

Mischendorf witnessed a remarkable turnaround following a challenging autumn season, where the newly promoted team suffered an 11:1 defeat against SV Stallhofen. Expectations were high for a strong performance at home as they kicked off the second half of the season.

However, just two minutes into the game, Christina Fandl put the Styrians ahead with a quick goal, making it 0:1. Despite this early setback, goalkeeper Panna Kollár was instrumental in denying further chances for the visitors. Gradually, the Südburgenland players began to assert their dominance on the pitch, fueled by the enthusiastic support of their fans, particularly in the midfield area.

The team created several opportunities, with Hannah Schöberl and Jasmin Hammrich coming close, but they were thwarted by Stallhofen’s goalkeeper, Selina Liebmann. Luck was on Fandl’s side when a high ball narrowly missed the crossbar (30 minutes in). The equalizer seemed imminent and was eventually achieved just before halftime.

Leonie Pinter found the back of the net after a chaotic play, scoring into the far corner. The young players from Südburgenland, primarily hailing from the BFV Women’s Academy Stegersbach, pressed for a second goal before the break, yet it remained 1:1 at halftime, thanks to Kollár’s reliable performance.

Decisive Penalty Secures Victory

After the interval, the Styrians continued to pose a threat with their counterattacks and aerial plays, hitting the upper net three times. Nevertheless, the Südburgenland squad, led by Jasmin Dorfmeister and Stephanie Rinnhofer, maintained control of the game. Liebmann stood strong against an impending deficit time and again.

A turning point occurred when a clear foul on Hannah Schöberl resulted in a penalty kick. Jasmin Dorfmeister stepped up and scored, leaving the Stallhofen keeper with no chance (55 minutes). In the closing moments, the victory could have been even more decisive, but Schöberl and Rojda Antlitzhofer faced some misfortune in their attempts to score. The 2:1 win set a positive tone for the spring season, with coach Kerstin Weber exclaiming, “That was an incredible performance!”

With this opening victory, Südburgenland 1b is now just one point away from seventh place in the standings, making a secure midfield position a tangible goal for the team this spring. SV Stallhofen, currently in fifth place, is only four points ahead, adding to the competitive spirit.

Looking ahead, Südburgenland 1b will compete against the Kötz-Haus Ladies in Preding on Saturday at 3 PM. Additionally, on Sunday, the SPG Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg will face SV Horn in the 2nd Women’s Bundesliga, also kicking off at 3 PM.
