South: 6 ideal sun destinations for a romantic trip

Casually, Valentine’s Day is less than a month away. Although it’s a little late to book a trip to the sun to mark the occasion, there’s always time to get inspired by beautiful, romantic places! Here are some sun destinations to consider for a trip for two.

1. Saint Lucia

Saint Lucia generally sits alongside Bora Bora and the Fiji Islands in lists of the best places in the world to go on a honeymoon. This is notably “the fault” of the Jade Mountain Resort, whose 24 luxury suites offer iconic views of the volcanic needles – or Pitons – of the island. But this Caribbean nation’s romantic aura isn’t just down to its high-end properties. It also comes from its lush nature, its volcanic springs, its beaches and its towns to discover hand in hand. The good news? You can stay in several all-inclusive hotels there, thanks to Canada Vacations and Sunwing, as well as Airbnb villas with pretty terraces.

2. Maui, Hawaii

It’s easy to fall in love with Maui. It is possibly the Hawaiian island that offers the most accessible mix of all the charms of the archipelago: great nature and great comfort, adventure, culture and beaches of all colors. There are many romantic hotels there, starting with the Four Seasons Resort Maui, where season 1 of White Lotus, or the Hana-Maui Resort, which is hidden at the end of the Road to Hana. This panoramic road of 84 km and 600 turns (!) will delight couples with an adventurous soul with its bamboo forests, waterfalls and black sand beaches.

3. Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands

Also known as the Turquoise Islands, this Caribbean archipelago consists of 40 islands and islets, nine of which are inhabited. Providenciales is the most developed and populated. There is a beach almost as soft and white as flour called Grace Bay Beach, along which many chic hotels are lined up, including the Club Med Turkoise. During a stay on the island, you absolutely must book a boat trip to marvel at the blue-green of the sea and take a little photoshoot as a couple on one of the many completely isolated sandbanks.

4. Samaná, Dominican Republic

Those who dream of coconut trees and white sand should consider going to the Samaná Peninsula. Located in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, this region hides some of the most heavenly and tranquil beaches in the country. The lively town of Las Terrenas is perfect for couples looking for bars and small restaurants, while the more isolated village of Las Galeras will suit lovers looking for peace and quiet. All-inclusive packages are offered by the main Quebec tour operators on the peninsula and there are also a host of small hotels for a different stay.

5. Havana, Cuba

With its old-fashioned charm, its lively bars, its sunsets along the sea, its Airbnbs with the charm of yesteryear and its comfortable hotels (some of which are offered on an almost all-inclusive basis), the Cuban capital has something to captivate. But we don’t choose this destination to stroll on the beach. We do it more to live cultural experiences, a dose of change of scenery and memorable moments aboard old American cars or along busy streets. Please note, however, that the difficult economic situation may currently limit gourmet options in restaurants and hotel buffets.

6. Negril, Jamaica

Jamaica is used to welcoming lovebirds. A popular Caribbean destination for honeymoons, it is home to many adults-only hotels, including the two Sandals offering overwater villas like in the Maldives. The one in Negril is located along Seven Miles Beach, famous for its beauty as well as its lively bars and restaurants. A host of other all-inclusive hotels await lovers in Negril, a region which is said to have kept an authentic and relaxed atmosphere despite the development of tourism. Its sunsets couldn’t be more romantic!
