There is a bit of Tina Turner, Billie Holiday or Nina Simone at home, Lady Blackbird and her slightly raspy voice has been conquering the soul planet since the release of her first album. Black Acid Soul last September.
But it was in 2020 that Marley Munroe, his real name, stood out with his first single, a very personal cover of Blackbird by Nina Simone, a 1966 song about racism and the condition of black people in America. After having signed at the age of 12 with a Christian music label, recorded for other groups or Christian rock singers but never for herself, she turned away from religious music, tried her luck, without much success with the Epic label, before turning to jazz and black soul of the 60s.
His first album Black Acid Soul includes thirteen tracks, original songs and covers. Very personal covers where the singer rightly imposes her signature: “There were so many songs I wanted to cover.
