Sophie Huguet, sports psychologist

It was while playing tennis as a child that Sophie Huguet developed a passion for sports psychology. Fascinated by the performance of athletes, she wanted to know how they manage to manage the intense thoughts and emotions they experience.

She also wanted to understand why some succeed in breaking through at a high level while others never manage to confirm their potential.

These questions left unanswered allowed him to explore the psychological parameters of the athlete’s performance.

At the microphone of Bixente Lizarazu, Sophie Huguet talks about his career and his job.

Make the athlete a champion

Sophie Huguet remembers having been a tennis player who was not not very strong physically, but who managed to make the difference thanks to his technique and tactics. With tennis player Björn Borg as a role model, she says she quickly realized that Knowing how to manage your emotions is a strength in sport. “I liked to be in control of my emotions, to show nothing. I was winning matches and I saw that my opponents were getting angry. I said to myself that we could win matches with the head “, she explains. She then specialized in this field, although sports psychology did not really exist in France at that time.

Today, as a sports psychologist, she accompanies the athlete, the trainer, but also the athlete’s entourage.

The sports world generates a lot of pressure, as well as strong emotions both positive and negative. “The fact of being accompanied allows you to have someone neutral who will not judge the person and who allows you to take a step back to get to know and understand yourself better”, she points out.

Some athletes manage to compartmentalize, but most find it difficult to perform when they have a personal problem – Sophie Huguet

Able to listen to everything, Sophie Huguet allows the athlete to free yourself from doubts and questions. She helps him manage his emotions so that he can focus on his sport and his performance, with the aim of making it a champion.
