After only three years at the head of Hydro-Québec, Sophie Brochu will leave her position on April 11.
“The time has come to pass the torch,” Sophie Brochu said simply in an internal memo obtained by The Press.
The decision to leave would not be linked to the government’s decision to give super minister of the economy Pierre Fitzgibbon responsibility for the state-owned company, it is said.
The one who was the first woman to lead Hydro-Québec explains that she accepted this responsibility in the midst of a pandemic, when the economic and social situation in Quebec was worrying. “I felt challenged,” she says.
The tumult linked to the pandemic is largely behind us and Hydro-Québec is in good shape, she underlines.
The CEO of Hydro-Québec would not have another position in sight, according to our information.
The one who came out of her sabbatical to take the helm of Hydro-Québec was quickly appreciated for her talents as a communicator and her fresh outlook on the energy sector.
The chair of the Hydro-Québec board of directors indicated that the board is in a position to recommend candidates to the government to succeed Sophie Brochu.
On Twitter, Mr Fitzgibbon thanked Ms Brochu for her “contribution to the public sector”.
