The president of the Treasury Board, Sonia LeBel, will table a bill on Tuesday aimed at expanding the powers of certain professionals, such as pharmacists.
Ms. LeBel called journalists to a press conference, which will be held Tuesday in the Evelyn-Dumas room of the National Assembly, after the tabling of her bill, around 3:30 p.m.
According to what The Canadian Press has learned, the bill will aim to dust off the Professional Code, a long-standing request from professional orders, in particular to improve ways of doing things in health.
For example, it would give more agility to pharmacists and authorize more health professionals to make mental health diagnoses, according to the information obtained.
The objective is to “simplify the system” and “make health care and the services offered by professionals more accessible,” said the minister’s office in the summons sent to the media on Monday.
The bill is presented by sources as a first “fairly major” milestone in the reform announced by Ms. LeBel last fall. In total, 46 professional orders would be affected.
