Increase in the cost of tolls in France. Motorists are paying more and more to take the highway. Toll rates recorded an average increase of 4.75% on February 1, 2023, after an increase of 2% on February 1, 2022. (Illustration) (CATHERINE AULAZ / MAXPPP)

“In front of the toll motorway we will be done, it’s a vulture that will give the tickets”, sings Johnny Hallyday. In this 1982 title, We’ll give you some rockit evokes a kind of wild team that gives birth to brutal and angry music.

But this week, we told you about it on France Info, it was the Minister of Economy and Finance, Bruno Le Maire, who was exceptionally frank in admitting that the State had made a mistake in privatizing motorways, and that the profits of the concession companies are too high. As if we didn’t know that the tolls were too expensive; and the acknowledgment of this error by the State does little to console the current feeling of being trapped, when one arrives at the tollbooth.
