General practitioners are threatening to leave the health insurance reimbursement system. They demand a revaluation of the consultation to 50 euros. Patient associations denounce this claim.

General practitioners met in Paris to discuss the exit from the Health Insurance reimbursement system. A practitioner has already taken the plunge: “After more than 12 years of student status, finding myself in financial difficulty and suffering in my job, it was not possible.“Some demanded a revaluation of the consultation to 50 euros. Health insurance offered them 26.50 euros, even 30 euros. An offer deemed insufficient.

A choice criticized by patients

A sector 1 approved session is set at 25 euros, almost fully reimbursed. A session in sector 2 is reimbursed up to 23 euros. Disadvantaged doctors set their prices. The France Assos Santé patient association fears unequal access to care: “[Les patients] will be served, cared for, according to the means they can afford“, declares Gérard Raymond, its president. Out of 110,000 general practitioners, only 500 are disconcerted.
