Some 600 ETS support staff are on strike Wednesday

Some 600 union members from the École de Technologie Supérieure (ETS) in Montreal walked out for a day on Wednesday.

These are support employees, namely technicians, professionals, office workers, trades and services, who are holding a one-day walkout, using their indefinite general strike mandate. They are members of a local section of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), affiliated with the Quebec Federation of Workers (FTQ).

The ETS is attached to the University of Quebec network and specializes in engineering.

The union reports that the points in dispute are salaries, teleworking arrangements, internal promotions and recognition of skills.

The collective agreement expired on March 31, 2022; negotiations began the following November.

Asked to comment, management had not yet done so at the time of writing.
