“Hands off the LDH.” In a petition published Tuesday, April 11 on the site of Humanity1,000 personalities support the Human Rights League. This appeal comes after Gérald Darmanin’s remarks last week on the financing of the association. “I do not know the subsidies given by the State” at the LDH “but I think it deserves to be looked at in the context of the actions they were able to take”had declared the Minister of the Interior before the Commission of the laws in the Senate.

“Subsidies are essential to guarantee the independence of associations and preserve them from the arbitrariness of power. Challenging them for political ulterior motives is a way of silencing checks and balances and extinguishing public debate”reads the text of the petition.

The LDH “carries out work to observe police practices with the aim of working to de-escalate violence, in order to guarantee republican order and the right to demonstrate. It is this demanding defense of our democracy that is targeted by the sub – heard unacceptable from Gérald Darmanin”is added.

Among the signatories of the petition are the new secretary general of the CGT, Sophie Binet, the director general of Oxfam France, Cécile Duflot, the mathematician Cédric Villani, the actor Christophe Alévêque and the writer Virginie Despentes.
