(Montreal) On the eve of a possible massive regularization program across Canada, protesters from the Solidarity Across Borders network showed up at the Montreal constituency office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday to demand full status and permanent for all undocumented people and migrants with temporary status.

Organized by the migrant justice network Solidarité sans frontières, the event aimed to put pressure on Mr. Trudeau, who had specifically asked the Minister of Immigration in December 2021, in his mandate letter, to continue exploring ways to regularize the status of undocumented workers.
While there are no hard numbers that determine the number of undocumented migrants in Canada, estimates from the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration (CIMM) range between 20,000 and 500,000 people.
Samira Jasmin, spokesperson for Solidarity Across Borders, spoke directly to federal cabinet ministers, urging them to “support the regularization program.”
She stressed that undocumented migrants were “human beings who have the right to live in Canada with dignity,” and invited the Canadian Prime Minister and his ministers to an assembly of immigrants in Ottawa in mid-November.
As part of the event, the caravan also planned stops in front of the constituency offices of David Lametti, Mark Miller, Mélanie Joly, Pablo Rodriguez and Steven Guilbeault, the five federal ministers with headquarters in Montreal.
