Solid cosmetics are very popular with consumers. 4 million French people use it today, which is good news for the environment.

A shampoo that looks like soap, or a toothpaste that looks like candy. Solid cosmetics are attracting more and more French people with their eco-friendly concept: no water, little packaging and zero waste. “One cleansing bar saves the equivalent of three 250ml plastic bottles of shower gel”explains Agnès Delamare, regional manager of Arma-Zone.

Improving the carbon footprint of manufacturers

The trend is democratizing. Sales have tripled in one year in supermarkets. Nearly 4 million French people today use solid cosmetics. Manufactured without water, based on compacted powder, they could improve the carbon footprint of manufacturers throughout the sector. “A shampoo, usually, is 20 kg of CO2. And today, with a tablet or powder, we manage to reduce it to less than a kilo of CO2 produced”, explains Grégoire Rolland, manufacturer of hygiene products at Laboratoires Paris Dôme. The products are also easy to make at home.
